The Lehman 12 is an exceptionally responsive two-man planing dinghy that quietly glides through the water with only a whisper of wind. It is a daggerboard boat with a loose-fitted cat rig and a deep rudder. The simple, uncomplicated design of the Lehman 12 makes it great for the husband-and-wife team.

 Following the successful updates made to the Naples Sabot, Lido 14, and Santana 20, the W. D. Schock Corporation redeveloped the Lehman 12 in 1998, maximizing the fun of sailing and minimizing upkeep. Working with Lehman 12 class officers, Schock developed a stiff, light, virtually maintenance-free boat that conforms to all existing class rules. The rails, mast partner, center thwart, and fore and aft flotation tanks are molded fiberglass parts. Gone are the mahogany and oak rails that required frequent varnishing, weighed a considerable amount, and would loosen with use. In their place, the "new" Lehman 12 has comfortable flared hiking rails that give the boat a contemporary look and feel. Class-sanctioned strengthening stringers have also been added, and an aluminum tiller replaces the wooden tiller.

Standard Description

HULL

The hull is 100% hand laid up fiberglass. A high gloss gel coat is used on the outside. Two fiberglass stringers are bonded to the inside of the hull to strengthen the boat and provide footing for the skipper and crew. Fiberglass bow and stern floatation tanks are also bonded to the hull.

RAILS, SEAT, AND MAST PARTNER

The rails, the center seat, the cap to the daggerboard well and the mast partner are molded in one single piece. This piece is 100% hand laid up fiberglass and is bonded to the hull.

STANDARD COLOR

The standard color of the hull is white. The rails and seat are light gray to minimize glare. The boot top can be either red or dark blue. A full range of colors for the hull and waterline are available as options.

HARDWARE

Harken, Ronstan, and RaceLite are used throughout. Hiking straps are provided for the skipper and crew. The boom vang is led aft and a 2:1 outhaul, a cunningham, and a "mast puller" are standard.

RUDDER, TILLER AND DAGGERBOARD

The rudder, tiller, and daggerboard are anodized aluminum. A 23" tiller extension is standard.

SPARS AND RIGGING

The mast and boom are silver anodized aluminum. Rigger's Choice wire is used for the shrouds and forestay.
