A Terrific Family Daysailer

For years, this beautiful little keel boat has been known as the Capri 14. It started out  as a “Lido 14 with a keel.” It was made from the Lido molds but was equipped with a 250 pound keel to make it more stable and to provide more leg room in the cockpit. The sail area was the same as the Lido’s, but everything else was kept very basic. The mast was a thicker section so the spreaders could be eliminated, and hitch cleats replaced the jib track and cam cleats.

Over the years, the Capri 14 has been a steady member of our product line, selling to sailors on small inland lakes and bays and to rental facilities and sailing schools. During the past few years, we have gradually added cruising amenities similar to those provided on the Harbor 20. Since it is now more like a mini-Harbor 20, we have decided to call it a Harbor 14.

A 250 pound keel gives the Harbor 14 excellent stability and eliminates the centerboard well which typically obstructs the cockpits of boats in this size range. The cockpit is eight feet long and very comfortably seats six on uniquely contoured seats. These seats are inside the cockpit, so the crew stays dry, and the children are happy and secure. There is even a special spot for the cooler under the wraparound section of the seat.

The Harbor 14 is equipped with cushions, a roller furler for the jib, lazy jacks for the main, a bow eye, and stern mooring cleats. To make this a real turnkey package, we even include the main and jib in the base price!  Ronstan cam cleats are used for the jib sheets. And the mainsheet is trimmed with a Harken combination ratchet block and cam cleat swivel. The mast is a larger section than the one used on the Lido 14, and the boom is located higher on the mast to give more headroom. We have also found a great little electric motor that is available as an option; and Pacific builds a custom trailer that keeps the boat as low as possible.

Just like the Harbor 20, the Harbor 14 can be dressed down and beefed up for commercial use.
